Synopsis:

Steam power is a mature technology, and in the provincial city of New Caledonia, it runs everything from the sewers to the Sky Tram. Steam fuels the economy and makes the city move, but it has also created a wide rift between those who maintain the equipment that sustains the city and those who reap its benefits. And now the most ruthless of the companies that governs New Caledonia has taken the final step towards total dominance of the lower classes. They have unleashed an infernal moving-picture device on the city that promises to give them the ultimate market share: people’s very minds. But there is still hope among the soot and the smog. One young girl dares to stand tall against the oppressors, even if it means crossing wills with a company devious enough to trade in people’s very thoughts. With her companion The Bullet, a befuddled but courageous beaver, she will take up the cause of the common people and strike out against injustice, carrying her claims against the evil corporation all the way to the highest levels.
